Presence Without Solicitation
Legal practice in India operates under some of the strictest promotional restrictions of any profession. Bar Council of India Rule 36 prohibits advocates from advertising or soliciting work, whether directly or indirectly. Any agency that offers to run lead-generation campaigns for your practice is offering something that could put your standing at risk.
Bharat Digital Marketing Company works with legal practices differently — building informational presence and discoverability within the boundaries the profession sets.
A Note on Bar Council Rules
BCI Rule 36 restricts advertisement and solicitation by advocates. Its scope has been the subject of amendments, clarifications and litigation over the years, and interpretation continues to evolve, particularly regarding online presence.
We are a marketing agency, not legal advisers to your practice. We will not build anything you have not satisfied yourself is permissible, and we would rather decline work than create a professional risk for you. Please confirm your position with your Bar Council before publishing.
Why Legal Practices Remain Invisible
- Referral-only growth. Excellent for reputation, limiting for expansion into new practice areas.
- Nothing findable. A prospective client who searches the firm’s name finds no confirmation it exists.
- Practice areas unknown. Deep expertise in a specific area is invisible outside the existing network.
- Compliance uncertainty. Many firms do nothing at all rather than risk crossing a line nobody has explained to them.
- Poor-quality agencies. Some agencies actively encourage practices to breach professional rules, without disclosing the risk.
What We Do for Legal Practices
An Informational Firm Website
Factual presentation of practice areas, advocate qualifications, enrolment details, firm history and contact information — informational in character, without claims of superiority or invitations to engage.
Directory and Listing Accuracy
Ensuring the firm’s name, address and contact details are correct and findable, so existing and referred clients can locate you.
Practice Area Information Pages
Factual descriptions of the areas the firm works in, so that specialisation is discoverable by those already looking for it. Part of our SEO services.
Educational Legal Content
General explanatory writing on legal processes and developments. Publishing legal information is widely practised by firms and academics and is informational rather than promotional in nature — though the framing matters, and we keep it factual.
Search Visibility for the Firm’s Name
Ensuring that a person who has been referred to you and searches your name finds the firm rather than nothing at all.
Client Communication Systems
Case update flows, document collection and appointment scheduling for existing clients — operational tools that fall entirely outside advertising rules.
Who This Is For
Law firms and chambers, individual advocates, corporate and commercial legal practices, family, property and civil law practitioners, legal consultancies, and legal process and documentation service providers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can advocates have a website?
Bar Council rules and subsequent clarifications have permitted informational websites subject to conditions on content. The restriction targets solicitation and promotional claims. Confirm the current position with your Bar Council before publishing.
Can I run ads for legal services?
We do not recommend it and will not set it up for a practising advocate. This falls squarely within what Rule 36 restricts, and the professional risk sits with you, not with the agency selling it.
Other firms are advertising. Why can’t I?
Some are taking a risk, knowingly or otherwise, and enforcement is inconsistent. We are not comfortable exposing a practice to a disciplinary question in exchange for a marketing retainer.
Then what actually helps?
A factual, well-built website, accurate listings, and genuinely useful informational content. Referred clients verify you online before calling, and finding a credible presence materially affects whether they do.
What if I am not a practising advocate?
Legal consultancies, documentation services and compliance firms not enrolled with a Bar Council are not bound by Rule 36, and have considerably more latitude. Tell us your structure and we will assess it.
Discuss a Compliant Approach
Tell us about your practice and your compliance position. We will explain honestly what is achievable and what we will not do.
